Veterans Accountability Unit

Mission Statement

The Illinois Veterans Accountability Unit mission is to ensure the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs promotes and improves the safety and protection of Illinois Veterans and staff, as well as to oversee its programs and quality of care that is safe, effective, Veteran centered, timely, efficient, and equitable, while demonstrating a culture of safety and integrity.

Purpose

The Veterans Accountability Unit (VAU) supports the administrative structure necessary to accept compliments and recommendations, and fields general questions about the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA) operations, policies, and procedures. The VAU also plans and coordinates activities to identify, audit, and review fraud, waste, and abuse or mismanagement of any kind, and ensures all complaints, allegations, or incidents of possible misconduct, misfeasance, malfeasance, or violations of rules, procedures, or laws by any employee, service provider, or contractor of the IDVA are reported to the Office of Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG).
